Paths to hospitality: The Welcoming Collective Body of Educating Cities in light of the highlighted experiences

The present study aims to relate the Brazilian experiences highlighted by the International Association of Educating Cities (AICE) to the theoretical construct of Hospitality, the Welcoming Collective Body (Santos, Perazzolo & Pereira, 2014), which addresses how cities welcome people and which hospitality is understood as a phenomenon that occurs “in the relationship” and, therefore, presupposes openness to the other (singular or collective). Educating Cities are characterized by promoting educational spaces aimed at social transformation and promoting the exchange of ideas, reflections, and good practices, through the sharing of experiences made available in the AICE database. This is a qualitative research, of a documentary and bibliographic nature, in which statements are interpreted in light of Bakhtinian enunciative analysis (Bakhtin, 2003), also guided by hermeneutics, as it seeks approximations between two fields of knowledge: education and hospitality. The results point to the intersection between the principles of Educating Cities and the concepts of hospitality, reinforcing the importance of the perspective that the city takes on its residents, and their needs, because, in doing so, it reinforces the importance of looking at the Other.
